Artist Bio: Mike "Voz" Vosburg

Hey there, my faithful ones! Sequential Treasures continues to "bring the heat" in a summer that has been both eventful and sizzling hot! Today, I bring you news of yet another great talent which has join the artistic stables here. A longtime player who's been a part of the comics scene for over three decades. Take a moment and get to know about the man, they myth, the legend, Mike Vosburg:

"Born in the cold and gloomy confines of Michigan, fantasy and escapism were a natural retreat for Mike. Comics of all sorts - westerns, funny animal, horror and even costumed heroes- were his introduction to literature and art. He soon moved up to the illustrations of N.C. Wyeth and the the stories of Sax Rohmer, Dashiel Hammet, Raymond Chandler, The Twilight Zone and anything else that caused a chill to run down his spine. While his mom had banned TV from the household there were weekly trips to the movies (usually with a bag of his dad's homemade popcorn). Bob Hope, Randolph Scott, Danny Kaye and occasionally some bit of brilliance from Hitchcock filled his life. All of this was a drug that lifted you above the mundane experiences of life. Storytelling was a religion, and Mike wanted to be a high priest.

While he had virtually no formal art training Mike did have several jobs that helped him prepare for a career in art. As a library page he learned how to do research; as worker on the line in a bus factory he learned how to assemble and put together a project; as a schoolteacher he learned how to educate both himself and his clients; as a basketball coach he learned it's all about teamplay; and as a janitor he learned how to clean up after someone else.

As a teenage Mike edited and produced the fanzine Masquerader, which introduced him to many of his cohorts in the comic book world and helped jump start his career. He worked for Marvel and DC for a number of years, on books like Cloak & Dagger, Savage She-Hulk, Starfire, World's Finest Comics, Ms. Marvel and many more, until moving to LA in the mid 80's where he branched out into the fields of animation, advertising and film. He has produced artwork for the LA Museum of Tolerance, has drawn the entire run of cover inserts for the HBO Tales
from the Crypt
series, won an Emmy as a director on the HBO animated series Spawn. Besides any number of advertising projects he has done storyboards for a number of music videos for the like of Emimem, Marilyn Manson and Gwen Stefani. Most recently Mike has storyboarded The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince
Caspian and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

In his spare time "Voz" continues to attend weekly figure drawing courses, as well as produce painted art, still shoots baskets in his back yard and continues to create and produce his own comic book graphic novels Lori Lovecraft (a cover of one of those issues is shown here) and Retrowood."

So, as you can see, Mike has had a very long career and it's not over yet. We here at Sequential Treasures are beyond pleased to be working with an artist of Mike's caliber, both in skill and reputation. We will have some of Mike's art for sale very shortly, so make sure to keep tabs at our art gallery for that update in the future.

Well, that's all for now. Are you excited, yet? You should be. I told you that 2010 was going to be the biggest year ever for Sequential Treasures. And we certainly like to live up to our promises around here. I'll be back soon, hopefully with an update of art from Mike. Until then, peace out!

Artist Bio: Mick Gray

Hey, folks, I'm back again, with more big news for you all. So, I hope you are sitting down while you read this. Since the last post marked the first 100 posts of this blog, what would be the best way to start off the next 100 blog entries? Why with an artist bio, of course. So, let me now give you the rundown on the newest talent to enter the Sequential Treasures fold. I give you, comic inker extraordinaire: Mick Gray!

"Mick Gray grew up wanting to be an artist and car designer. At the suggestion of his father, Mick became a draftsman, getting on the job training at 16 and an Associates Degree in Technical Illustration at 20. He created spec sheets, illustrated textbooks and designed packaging for electronics companies. In his early 20s he started his own business, Draftecnix. It was by a sheer
twist of fate that he became a comic book inker.

In 1988 his best friend suggested him to local comic book publisher, Dan Vado of Slave Labor Graphics. On a whim Mick brought down his portfolio of technical illustrations. He was instantly hired to ink backgrounds like buildings and cars on SLG books such as Hero Sandwich, The Griffin and Bloodlust.

When Dan's book The Griffin was recreated by DC Comics, Mick was asked to
assist the new inker Mark McKenna. This began a 6 year partnership and intensive
training at both DC and Marvel Comics. Mick assisted other inkers for years before gaining the confidence to get his own projects. Soon editors at Marvel and DC were calling him.

Mick is now an Eisner Award winning inker and has worked continuously for DC comics for over 20 years, along with some of the most talneted and recoginzed names in comics, on projects such as the Son Of Superman hardcover (J.H. Williams III), Supergirl And The Legion Of Super-Heroes (Barry Kitson), Zatanna (Ryan Sook), Promethea and Chase (J.H. Williams III), Batman Confidential (Rags Morales), Teen Titans Go! (Alexander Serra), The Joker hardcover (Lee Bermejo), JSA: Kingdom Come (Fernando Pasarin and Dale Eaglesham) and The Shield (Marco Rudy). And this is only some of his tremendously large body of work.
Mick's current project to inking over his old pal, Ryan Sook again on The Return of Bruce Wayne #5, as well as some future works he can't quite talk about right now.

In 2009 Mick published his first children's book, Al B. Mouse's Abecedarium, which had a print run of only 200 copies and is available through his website http://www.mickgray.net/."

So, as you can see, we have a bona fide star here and we at Sequential Treasures are very happy to have him on-board. And if you'd like to get to know a little more about Mick, you can check out some recent interviews he's done for Fan to Pro and Sketch Maven. We hope to have some of Mick's original art for sale soon, so keep watch at our art gallery for that (or you could also buy some of the other art, which is already there from our illustrious crop of talented artists).

That's all for this time. I must say, it certainly is a great way to close out the best month ever for Sequential Treasures. Let us hope it's the start of a trend. I'll be back soon with more news and goodies for you all. Until then, peace out!

Artist Bio: Jason Craig

Hello, my art loving throngs! Well, I've been a bit cryptic and vague about some of the big happenings going on at the Sequential Treasures HQ, teasing you and drawing it out to maximum effect. Well, the time has come to break some of these things to you. So, with much ado, let me inform you all that Sequential Treasures has now become the exclusive art rep for rising comic superstar, artist Jason Craig!

If his name sounds somewhat familiar to you, it will all become very clear, once you read his bio below:

"After attending a comic book convention in 1991 in Chicago, Jason realized his passion was comics. After a hit and miss career over the next 10 years, he finally started working full time in advertising. All of that came to a sudden halt in the winter of 2002.

After an almost fatal crash, a coma, and a hard year of physical rehab, Jason returned to Chicago and landed Grimm Fairy Tales issue #11 for Zenescope. From there began working on the first issue of The Chronicles of Dr. Herbert West (the cover of which is shown here), a series based on the Re-Animator series of horror films, only to be stopped to work on Se7en issue 5 with writer Dave Wohl. Shortly after returning back to the Re-Animator book, he was offered a 6 issue Mini Series of Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash and worked close with the talented writing team of James Kuhoric and Jeff Katz.

Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash was nominated for many awards, one of which was a SPIKE TV Scream Award, and from that success Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash:
Nightmare Warriors
concluded the series successfully. Currently he has worked on a story for WOLVERINE #900 for Marvel Comics, various film projects and currently is working on bringing his self published book to life, and the rest is history in the making…"

So, already Jason has become something of a minor star, not only in the world of comics, but also in the world of horror! You can expect big things coming down the pike from Jason and we'll be here to give you all the details. We also hope to have some of Jason's originals up for sale in the near future, as well.

That's all for now, but not all there is. While I've given you a part of the big plans going on behind-the-scenes here, this is by no means the end. I have even more coming down the line and very soon. So, keep your seat belts strapped in, as we rocket forward into the future, with even more big news to come. Until then, peace out!

Artist Bio: Matt Haley

Hello, my comic art faithful. I told you I'd be back soon with more news and info and you know your not-so-humble blogmaster has never lied to you before, so why start now?

Today's news is probably some of the biggest I've had to give in some time. It's something I've been sitting on for a bit, until the time was right to spring it. Well, all has fallen into place and that time is now: Sequential Treasures is now the exclusive art rep for big time comic star Matt Haley! This is very big news for us here and we couldn't be more excited to be working with an artist of Matt's reputation and caliber. I'm sure many of you are familiar with Matt's art from his time at the big two. But for those of you not so in the know, here's a small rundown on Matt's career:

"Artist Matt Haley is well known in the world of comic books for his years of work for Marvel (THE ORDER, HEROES REBORN: REBEL), DC (SUPERGIRL/BATGIRL: ELSEWORLDS FINEST, BIRDS OF PREY) and Dark Horse (GHOST), but he attracted a whole new audience thanks to the illustrations he provided for HarperCollins' new book BADASS, by Ben Thompson, in bookstores nationwide.

Already hard at work on the sequel, Haley also heeded the call to Hollywood and created art for both seasons of Sci-Fi Channel’s hit series, “Stan Lee’s Who Wants to be a Superhero?” But never to forget the industry that helped put him on the map, he remained a fixture in comics working on the art to Superman Returns movie adaptation. Haley’s talent and reputation as an artist have created a demand for his work that spans the entertainment industry.

More recently, he was lead artist for Rift Software's "Liberty Rocket" XBOX game, as well as providing covers for FEMME NOIR for Ape Entertainment, TANGENT: SUPERMAN'S REIGN at DC Comics, and Avatar's relaunch of LADY DEATH. He's
also just directed a secret film project that will be viral on the web by May."

As I said, this is big news. The only down side, is that Matt doesn't have very much of his past originals left for sale. However, Sequential Treasures is working with him to create new exclusive pin up pieces to be sold through us, as well as lining up commission works for him. We will shortly have a commissions rate chart available, so make sure to check in with us shortly, if you'd like to get your own Matt Haley original. Even better, Matt will be at Emerald City ComiCon in March, along with myself, Randy Kintz and Ben Hansen. So, Sequential Treasures looks to be out in force come March and you'll have the opportunity to meet many of the talented creators in our stables.

Wow, how exciting, huh? Things just continue to move onward and upwards for Sequential Treasures and we hope you'll be along for the ride. That's all for this time. I'll be back with more news and updates soon. If they turn out as impressive as this one, you just might not be able to stand it! Until then, peace out!

Artist Bio: Ben "1314" Hansen

Hey everyone! It's been a bit quiet, but all that is gonna change. You know I've been hinting for a while now, that I have some big news coming up. Well, now is the time to let the cat out of the proverbial bag. Sequential Treasures will now be the exclusive art rep for artist Ben "1314" Hansen.

If his name isn't known to you, that's okay. Ben is a fairly new guy to this hallowed industry, but what he lacks in popularity he makes up for with sheer enthusiastic talent. Your humble blogmaster has had the chance to know Ben for years, and in doing so I've watched his style develop and grow very quickly in that time. Don't believe me? Just look at the sample image here to see the kind of work this guy can crank out. But don't let me blow Ben's horn for him, as the artist is more than happy to give the lowdown on himself:

"In a galaxy not quite so far away, nor a time not long ago, Ben “1314” Hansen was bit by the comic bug. Since then he has been penciling away, honing many comic art styles, from mainstream to the macabre and everything in between. Ben got his first break into comics when his good friend and mentor Drew Hayes of Poison Elves asked him to help out with the inks on the book. Ben then moved up to penciling when he got the opportunity to draw Dark Powers and Vermicide for QEW Publishing Group. We can also find Ben’s unique blend of macabre and mainstream in the pages The Dependents soon to be released by Arcana Comics. But if you don’t want to wait that long, you can find his work gracing the pages of Roger Corman Presents Battle Amongst the Star printed by Bluewater Productions. A prequel to the 1986 Roger Corman film, “Battle Beyond the Stars”, of which the first issue will be out this March. Ben has also been working with the good people at 5Finity doing a wide array of sketch cards ranging from the character of MoonstoneComics, Voltron and His personal favorite Zombie VS Cheerleaders."

As you can see, there is plenty Ben Hansen work coming down the pike very soon. You also will have the chance to meet Ben in person, once the convention season swings into gear. We, also, will have some of Ben's original art for sale at our art gallery shortly and will make sure you all know when it hits. So, make sure you take note of his name. You are going to see a lot of it in 2010 and beyond!

That's it for now, art fans. More to come soon. Until then, peace out!

4.12.2009

Artist Bio: Randy "Rantz" Kintz

With the welcome news that I am again working with Randy Kintz, it also seems appropriate that you also get the lowdown on him. As with Richard Moore, those of you who've bought from me when I was working through Space Goat already will know most of this stuff (although, there is some new tidbits for you, which has not been known before). For the rest of you, this is the oppertunity to learn about Randy a bit. So, sit back and read on, McDuff:

"Born and raised in the outlying suburbs of Portland Oregon, Randy “Rantz” Kintz was destined to be an artist is some form or fashion. From early childhood, Randy would get into trouble for doodling on anything, and everything, that he could get his hands on. Not much has changed, in that sense. These days, his doodling has sparked the pages of Ray Harryhausens: Jason and the Argonauts, bringing new life to an already epic story, providing both pencils and inks. His blend of American and Anime styles has sparked interest all over the world. His art can also be seen on the covers of Legend of Isis, GEARZ (cover to issue #2 shown above), and Wrath of the Titans #1 Graham Cracker Exclusive from Bluewater Productions, to images within the pages of Cereal Geek, based out of England."

Expect to see big things from this guy later this year. In fact Randy is currently working on the series Drone from Red 5 Comics, which is due out shortly. You will have a chance to check out his work on it even sooner, as there is a preview of it set for Red 5's Free Comic Book Day offering which will be available in May. Randy's art style is very unique and distinct. It reminds me of a lot of artists who use an anime-influenced style (like Humberto Ramos and Joe Madureira), but it has an edge all it's own. Sequential Treasures is very happy to have him on board with us. Our list of talented creators only continues to grow, as we slowly begin our eventual bid to take over the comic industry!

I'll have some of Randy's art available to purchase very soon. So, keep tabs on my art gallery for the upcoming update. Until then, peace out!

Artist Bio: Richard Moore

I figured since I gave you all Chris Ivy's personal bio a few days ago, that it would probably be a good idea to give you Richard Moore's, as well. This was already made public when I was still with Space Goat Fine Arts (and it is where the bulk of the info is coming from), but with a new blog and new start it just makes sense to put it here, too. So, for those who've seen it before, you'll be getting a nice sense of deja vu. For those who haven't seen it before, please do enjoy. And away we go:

"California-born Richard Moore grew up not so much wanting to be an artist as simply feeling compelled to draw. Paper, textbooks, desktops--any flat surface was fair game. Not knowing exactly how to go about making money with his art, Richard focused obsessively on improving his fine art skills, then segued into comics with the publication of titles such as Far West and Deja Vu through Antarctic Press and Radio Comix. Richard has spent the past several years writing and illustrating the indie hit Boneyard (cover art from the series is shown at the left) from NBM Publishing."

And what does the future hold for Richard? The much desired (and much delayed) final issue of Boneyard will be out in a few months, before going on hiatus. There is also the concluding issues to the Fire & Brimstone and Far West: Bad Mojo mini-series, which are to be published by Antarctic Press. Also, some of his past works, which have not been reprinted anywhere else will finally be getting such treatment (the what, where and when, I cannot say right now). Finally, Richard is also hard at work on a children's book, which I will talk more about when more info can be given. So, there will be no shortage of Moore in 2009. In fact, expect lots of big things, both this year and beyond, from this extremely talented creative force.

That's all for now. Tomorrow I will announce the "secret news" I hinted at yesterday. And no, it's not an April Fools joke, either. Until next time, peace out!

Artist Bio: Chris Ivy

Well, as promised, here is a quick little artist's bio on Sequential Treasures newest resident, Chris Ivy. And away we go...

"Chris Ivy's career in comics started with a phone call from legend Don Perlin just two days before he graduation from art college in 1987. He asked if Chris was interested in a staff job at Marvel in 1987, working under Perlin himself and John Romita in Marvel’s Art Corrections dept. Chris learned more from the both of them in the next 12 months then in any of his schooling about the art of comics. After a short stint in the same year as Joe Rubenstein's inking assistant, he began his own lucrative freelance career on the lowest rung of the ladder—pencilling, coloring and (mostly) inking for Marvel—starting on a couple of the New Universe titles, Remo Williams: Destroyer and Wolf Pack. He eventually gained enough trust from editors there to expand to higher-selling books (Avengers, Marvel Comics Presents, Alpha Flight, Punisher, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Blade, Cage, Wolverine and plenty others), while working with some of the best talent in the business. In “Forrest Gump” fashion—he seemed to meet and befriend key figures in the industry (Jim Lee, Jim Valentino, Erik Larsen, Rob Liefeld, Whilce Portacio, to name a few) over the next several years that led him to more high-profile work on titles at Image (Shadowhawk, Wildstorm Swimsuit issue, Supreme, Phantom Force, Union), Valiant-Voyager/Acclaim (Bloodshot, H.A.R.D. Corps), DC (Anima, Superman, Flash, Beast Boy, Sovereign Seven, JLA) and Dark Horse (Star Wars-Bounty Hunters: Kenix Kil , Aliens v. Predator: Xenogenesis, Aliens v. Predator v. Terminator, Planet of the Apes). Truly, Chris was one of the most prolific artist/inkers within the comic industry throughout the late 80's and well into the 90's!"

Of course, those days are long gone and things have changed very much since then. With the crushing industry-wide implosion through the last half of the 90’s and early 2000’s, work has been much harder to come by. Lately, most of his time is spent looking for any and all illustration work, making some of the convention circuit, as well as doing private comic-related commission work through places like ComicArtFans.com and eBay. And now, selling his original pages through Sequential Treasures: Comic Art Sales can be added to that list.

So, make sure to check out the art we currently have on hand from Chris. More will be on the way very soon. Don't miss out. Until later, peace out!
