Emerald City ComiCon: Post Show Report

Hey there, my artistic fiends! Well, ECCC 2011 is now in the books and history. It was a great time by all account and that includes us at Sequential Treasures. After having a couple of days to decompress from things, it's now time to give you our usual post con report.

This year was a bit different for me, as I didn't get out and about at the show like I normally do. I manned the booth most of the show (like shown in the picture here). This enabled me to see a lot of attendees, a few of whom I already knew. Many of whom, though, I did not. I did notice just how many great costumes there were this year. So, I complied a small catalog of the better one and posted those pics on our Facebook Group. If you are on Facebook, you should check these out (as well as my acerbic attempts at humor on them). Some of these folks really went all out on this.

It was good having Randy Kintz in our booth, as it made the booth feel more of a place to be (which is something I was concerned with, since our booth was on the opposite side of where artist alley was). He sold quite a few prints and did some sketches. A Wonder Woman, Lady Death, Batgirl, and Black Cat were all among the ones he did. But I think my favorite one, was a fun head shot he did of the Joker as a Green Lantern. It was certainly one of the more inventive ones I saw him do.

Speaking of prints, our Transformers jam one did very well and was quite popular with folks. Even ones who stopped by the booth and didn't pick up one, still had nothing but positive comments about it (although, maybe my blasting the Transformers: The Movie soundtrack helped in that, too). I'm certain we'll do another one for next year. I just need to pick the subject matter. Only sold a few pieces of original art, though, but hopefully, with this show growing every year, some of those big spenders will start coming to this one.

While I was at the booth most of the show, I did get out a little each day to get some comics signed and get a few sketches. I noticed that most artists prices are really getting high nowadays. So, I guess if anyone wondered if the recession is over, now you know. Being limited in my funds I didn't get nearly as many sketches as I have in past shows, but I managed to get a few nice pieces by names like Todd Nauck, Erik Larsen, Andy Kuhn and a few others. But if I have to pick my favorite of the show, it's either my Green Lantern by Francisco Herrera or the Spider-Girl by Mike McKone. Both of those were very awesome. But you be the judge and check them out yourself.

I didn't get to any of the panels, or do much comic shopping (although, I did get a decent grade Incredible Hulk #120 from 1969 for only a few bucks). I guess that's just something I'll have to start planning on for next year, because we will be back next year. I've pre-paid for an artist alley table and will have both Randy Kintz and Ben Hansen there with me again (and perhaps even on either side of my table, if things work out right). So, if you didn't get to the show this year, or if you did and just forgot to stop by, you'll have another shot next year.

Our next appearance event will be for Free Comic Book Day in Ellensburg, WA (in which I'll again have Randy Kintz in tow with me). We had a good time at Central City Comics last year and they wanted us back again this year. So, if you'll be in the area on that day, make sure to stop in an join in on the fun!

That's all for now, folks. I'll be back soon with more info on things and maybe even an art update or two. Until then, peace out!

Are YOU ready for the Emerald City ComiCon?

Hey there, original art lovers! Well, with February pretty much a done deal, it means it's almost time for the Emerald City ComiCon in Seattle! As you know, I've been slowly teasing you all with Sequential Treasures plans for the show, but now, with crunch time upon us, I'm going to spill it all for you right here.

First off, we will be found at booth #1007 in the Exhibitors section of the show floor. You can look at their map of it, to see where we are. Put us pretty far away from artist alley, but whatcha gonna do? I hope you all will be willing to make the trek across the show floor to our booth though, as we have lots of cool stuff planned.

To begin, we'll have several of our artists on hand. Randy Kintz will be at our booth all three days, as will Ben Hansen (who'll be floating between our booth and the "Sketch Crew" tables in artist alley, which are table a-15 through 17). Last, but certainly not least, Matt Haley will be at the booth, but only on Saturday, as some work deadlines will only allow him to be at the show for one day. He, also, will be co-hosting the Blackstar Warrior panel on Saturday at 12:00 pm. You can see it on ECCC's programming schedule. They will all be doing sketches, plus Ben and Randy will have prints and sketchbooks with them, many of them new and debuting at this show.

And speaking of prints, there are two exclusive prints that you can only get from the Sequential Treasures booth. One is a War Machine piece by Ben Hansen. The other is a jam piece by Randy Kintz and Ben, featuring the Transformers, to honor the 25th anniversary of the original Transformers: The Movie (back from 1986). You can see images of both of these prints on our Facebook Group (they both are really awesome, if I do say so myself, and I don't expect them to last very long, as supplies will be limited).

There will, of course, be plenty of original art on hand to purchase from our various artists (not just the ones at the show, either). I'll be lugging over 400 pieces of original art for sale, including some pieces that have not been made available on our art gallery as of yet. Anyone at the show will be getting first crack at them. So, get their first and purchase fast, as I know the good stuff will disappear quickly, as it always does.

Lastly, lest you think we are only about ourselves, we have some really great things to show our giving side. First, is that we are taking donations for the HERO Initiative. As they do not have a booth set up at the show this year, Sequential Treasures has decided to "pick up the slack." It is a most worthy cause, to help older creators in their golden years (many of whom did not have a lot of the benefits and rights that creators today have). In addition, anyone making a donation of $10.00 or more will get a an original sketch card piece by Randy Kintz or Ben Hansen. They have graciously offered to help this noble charity, by doing so (but as with most things, supplies of the cards are limited). And, as if this weren't enough, we will also be giving away free comics to any kids who come by the booth (not to worry parents, they will be age appropriate stuff). But, again, this will only happen while supplies last.

Well, there you have it. The outline for our show time plans. Plus, who knows, maybe we'll even squeeze in another surprise or two. So, I trust I can count on all of you who are going to the show to stop by out booth? I thought so. How could you resist such awesomeness? Answer: you can't!

That's it for now. When next you hear from me, it'll probably be our post show report. So, until then, I'll see you at ECCC in Seattle! Peace out!

New Richard Moore art availabe to buy!

Hey there, my art loving followers! Were back with some more news and updates for you, as you like it. So, let's get things rolling...

First, we have just added all 16 pages to Far West: Bad Mojo #1 by Richard Moore and Antarctic Press. Richard's elven bounty hunter is one of his more enduring creations and this now means we have the complete set of page to both issue of her latest mini-series, available to purchase right away! Pictured above is just one of them. So, go to the art gallery and check them all out. But don't delay in placing your orders, as this stuff will be going to the Emerald City ComiCon with us and there's no guarantee that it will all be here after we get back. Place those orders ASAP!

And speaking of the upcoming show, it's time for me to give you all another little taste of what we have planned for it. Well, we're doing something we've never done before at any show and are going to have exclusive prints for sale. These are prints that you won't find anywhere else and can only be bought from Sequential Treasures directly. You can see one of the planned prints posted up at our Facebook Group right now, featuring the artistic styling of Ben Hansen. On top of that, we'll have original art for sale, which has not yet been posted to the art gallery. So, your first chance to view them (and purchase them) will be at the show. If these don't make it worth your while to stop by our booth (#1007 in the exhibitors section, in case you didn't know), then nothing will!

Well, that's it for now. We've still got a lot of last minute details to work out before the time of the show, but we'll be here to give you more news an info as we always do. The countdown to ECCC in upon us and I hope to see you there! Until next time, peace out!

Batman and Robin #20 verdict: An overwhelming winner!

Hey, everyone! Well, things are really moving along here at Sequential treasures HQ, as we get ready for our big convention debut for 2011! But before we get into any of that, here's a couple of others things that we wanted to let you know about.

First off, with Mick Gray now the regular inker for the very popular series Batman and Robin, we've been curious how his debut issue (#20, for the record) has been received by the comic reviewing community. Well, the word on the street is in and it looks to be a big hit with most folks. Below are some of the choice comments from some review related site about it:

"In just the first few pages of their first issue on this series, Tomasi, Gleason and Gray have sold me." - DS Arsenault of Weekly Comic Book Review

"I cannot wait to see more of this series and it finally seems like this is going to be in great hands for the future." - iFanboy

"It's delivered everything I want from this series: great writing, exceptional art and a plot that could be as odd as what Morrison accomplished during his tenure on the title." - Erik Norris of IGN

"There is no filler here, no panels used to get to the big guns; everything is done with obvious and painstaking attention to detail." - Iann Robinson of Crave Online

"... this issue was great. It’s opening was heartwarming, it’s ending was a classic cliffhanger, and the stuff in-between made for an excellent read." - John Barringer of A Comic Book Blog

I guess we have a overwhelming hit on our hands, folks. So, if you haven't already check the book out, do so now (the variant cover to the issue is shown above)! Get in on the book that has folks talking.

Next up, I have a special treat for you, but only if you happen to have a Facebook account. At Sequential Treasures Facebook Group, I've just posted a few advanced images from Richard Moore's upcoming one shot called Ladies of the Night, which is due out in April from Antarctic Press. It's basically a pin up book, with little verses that go with each image. It's Richard doing what his fans love to see him do. The images shown will be in the book, but you get a sneak peek of them right now. So, if you don't have a Facebook account, maybe this will give you reason to get one. If you do have one, then you need to join our Facebook group. And once you do, you'll be checking out some exclusive content for us that you won't see anywhere else.

And now, as promised, I'm going to continue to give you all some tidbits on the fun we have planned for the Emerald City ComiCon, which is now only two weeks away! We at Sequential Treasures aren't solely about ourselves. We like to help out others, too. So, that's why we will have a donation jar for the HERO Initiative at our booth (#1007 in the exhibitors section). It seems that this year there will not be a booth at the show for this great organization, so we wanted to do them a solid and give them some kind of presence at the event. But that not the end of it. For those who make a donation of $10.00 or more, our own Randy Kintz will do you a personal sketch card piece. The amount of cards are limited to only 30, so it's "first come, first served." It's just a small way for us to help out a very worthwhile cause, which is very close to our hearts, while also making it fun for all of you guys. So, when you stop by our booth, make sure to do your part and help out.

That's all for now. I'll be back again, as we edge closer to ECCC time, with more info on things. Until then, peace out!

Randy Kintz quickie art update!

Hey there, folks! Well, your blogmaster is back again, to give you more scoops and info on everything Sequential Treasures related.

First off, we have a small art update from our own Randy "Rantz" Kintz. We've just added three great new pin up pieces from him to our art gallery. We've got one of Angela of Spawn fame (shown here in the image provided), one of the pieces used in Randy's angel card set from sadlittle.com last year, and last (but certainly not least), there's the pin up which is going to be the exclusive new print Randy has done for the Emerald City ComiCon next month in Seattle! All of these are great, so head on over and give them a gander (and maybe buy one, while you are there, if you feel the desire).

And speaking of the show, here's another little tidbit of info for what we have planned for you. While Randy has an exclusive new print for the show, he's not the only one who will. There will be two great exclusive prints offered directly by Sequential Treasures. I won't say of what (although, I will post the images on our Facebook group, which is linked in the sidebar, closer to show time), but I will tell you who by: Randy Kintz and Ben Hansen! And these will be true exclusives, as you won't be able to get these prints from Randy or Ben at any shows which we are not at. So, you better make sure to hit our booth at the show (#1007, in case you didn't know) and grab up these beauties, as you won't have endless opportunities to do so.

Well, that's all for now. More info and updates are sure to be coming your way soon. So, until next time, peace out!

Hey there, my faithful fiends. We're back again with more news and info for you Sequential Treasure watchers. This time out we've got a bit of stuff to cover. Starting with multiple new comics hitting the comic shops this week, from our bevy of talents.

First off, we have Chip: Second Crack #3 from Richard Moore and Antarctic Press. This is the concluding chapter to the mini-series. This time Chip, Ash and their new friend, the Jersey Devil, all find themselves the target of a hunter, who wants to add them all to his trophy collection. Will Chip and his crew outfox the hunter, or will they end up as a new talking piece over his fireplace. Whatever happens, you know it's probably going to be hilarious getting there. So, make sure you pick up your copy of this book, which Shawn of Cosmic Comix & Toys said is "Sweet, fun and funny."

Next up, is probably the biggest release we've ever seen around here. Batman and Robin #20, which boasts a sterling new creative team, features the inking power of our own Mick Gray, who is also the series new regular inker. You can check out a preview of the issue right here. This is currently one of DC's most popular titles and is sure to only continue to be so with this team. So, make sure to get in on the ground floor to what is sure to be a great run with some very talented creators at the helm. Just look for the cover shown here at your comic shop this Wednesday.

Finally, in our countdown to show time, I'll be giving you some more info on what you can expect to see for us at the Emerald City ComiCon next month in Seattle. Today, I'm going to tell you that your blogmaster won't be the only one in the booth. I'll be sharing it with Randy Kintz and Matt Haley! And who knows what cool things they'll be bringing with them for you all. On top of that, Ben Hansen will also be making appearances at the booth over the course of the show, as well. Benn has his own table in artist alley, but he'll be spending some time at the Sequential Treasures booth, too. So, there's going to be plenty of our talent on hand for signing and sketching. Make sure to stop by booth #1007 in the exhibitor's section of the show, because we are all certainly looking forward to seeing you.

Well, that's all for now, as I don't want to overload you with the awesomeness we have planned. But I'll be giving you more info on those plans as the time of the comicon gets closer, so make sure to keep checking back here regularly (provided you don't already do so). We have a lot of cool things we're setting up for you and you certainly don't want to be left out of the loop. Until next time, peace out!

While it has been some time since you've heard from us, that's merely because we've been busy getting things ready and plotting out some good stuff for all of you that will be coming this year (some of which I will get into in a moment). And what better way to start off things for 2011, than with the release of some comic goodness from one of our illustrious talents!

Hitting The Shelves: Strange Aeons Magazine #1

Hey there, my faithful ones. Time to hit you with some more news and developments here at Sequential Treasures HQ. Today, we have a new comic related item, which features artwork by our own Ben Hansen.

Fresh off the presses is a new horror anthology magazine called Strange Aeons. It's 56 pages of gorgeous B&W (and color!) comics, book reviews, short story fiction, and more. If you have ever been a fan of mags like Heavy Metal, Eerie, Creepy and the like, then this is something that is right up your alley. As for the Ben Hansen connection, he provides the cover art (shown here), as well as the art for a lobby card insert. Ben had some preview copies available at the Emerald City ComiCon, but now you can buy it outright. It may be found in select comic shops (and if they don't have it, be sure to pester them to get it), but your best bet to get it, is by ordering it straight from Strange Aeons website.

A Web of Excitement: The Emerald City ComiCon Report

Okay, everyone, after much ballyhoo and promises, here's the post-ECCC report I know you've been waiting for.

This show has grown very much over the last several years since it began. One of the things I've noticed is the large increase of traffic at the show. Over the course of the two days this year, an attendance record was broken, with almost 15,000 people coming to the show this year. That might sound impressive, but when you factor in that a couple of pop cultures "royalty" were among the guests, it isn't quite as surprising. I also liked have several of our artists at the show. Randy Kintz, Ben Hansen and Matt Haley were all there. We all would have liked more time to hang out, but the constant flow of humanity made that all but impossible.

Speaking of creators, one of the high points of the show for me, was finally getting to meet Stan "the Man" Lee. If ever their was a creator who could be called a "living legend," Stan Lee would have to be it. I got my copy of Ravage 2099 #1 signed by him and even got to shake his hand. On top of that, Stan punk'd me and played a little joke on me, while I got my signature. I hope my mind and wit are as fast as his, when I'm nearing 90 years of age. I'd have liked to have gotten a photo with him, but with an autograph cost $40.00 and the photo just as much, I simply didn't have the funds. Still, I met him and that's all that really matters to me.

Talked to some other fine creators, too. Including Tone Rodriguez, who could hardly keep awake while doing a sketch for me. Then, I spent a few minutes talking with Aaron Lopresti. I've seen Aaron at several shows in my region, so he knows me. In fact, he's married to a women my wife went to high school with. Small world, it seems. The best original piece I pick up was a sketch of Iron Man by Tim Sale, at a post show event by the Hero Initiative. I was amazed at just how much detail he put into his style, to make it look so simplistic. Just incredible.

Plenty of folks were dressed up in costumes, as well. I saw a couple Catwoman ones, a nice Supergirl, a Joker and probably the best Poison Ivy costume I'd ever seen. However, I ended up snapping this pic of a kid dressed as that wall-crawling icon, Spider-Man, which you can see above.

If there was any downside to the show, it would have to be, and I know this sounds like a broken record, a lack of sales. To call them "slow," would to call the Grand Canyon a "pothole." In fact, this point greatly bothered me on Saturday. So much so, I almost considered packing up and going home. Others, fortunately, dissuaded me of that. And funniest of all, was the words of advice I got from artist Joe Dodd, who had the table next to mine. He said that Seattle isn't a big original art town and that other ones, like in Florida and New York, are more known for attracting the art buying crowds. Well, I wish I'd have known that sooner, but it's a live and learn world, I suppose.

Naturally, the post-show hanging out is always the best part of any convention. I've sort of established myself a small crew, whom I always hang out with when the day of a show is done. Taking in some of the nightlife of the city and some of the... eccentric personalities one will see around town, always makes for some fun times. This show was no different. And it had the added benefit of us brew up some ideas for the future of Sequential Treasures. You'll just have to stay tuned as see how these develop over the year.

So, overall a good experience was had and some good times, too. Next up, is a Free Comic Book Day event in Ellensburg and then the Spokane Comicon, both in May. I hope some of you will be at these events. I'd love to meet you in person.

That's all for now. I'll be back soon, with more news on our artists projects and more art updates. Until then, peace out!

3.20.2010

New art from Randy Kintz and Ben Hansen now for sale!

Hello again, everybody! I'm still playing catch-up post ECCC (and I still need to finish the report on it, but it is coming soon, I promise you). On the agenda today, we have a nice little update of art from Sequential Treasures two biggest up-and-comers: Randy Kintz and Ben Hansen!

From Ben, we have several more pin up pieces, including a Magdalena/Witchblade/Darkness shot, an awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles group shot and a couple of other nice treats. On top of that, we have the cover art to the Vermicide One-Shot (shown here), which is due to hit comic shops in April. So, some very cool stuff, indeed.

Then we have Randy Kintz, who hits us with a couple of nice pin ups, including the sexy librarian that was an ECCC exclusive print design and some gorgeous Space Amazons. If you've seen Randy's take on the female form, you know these don't disappoint. As if that weren't enough for you, we have the remaining covers to his hit mini-series DRONE (issue #2 through 4) and the Graham Cracker exclusive variant edition cover to Wrath of the Titans #1 from Bluewater Comics.

So, there's lots to see here. Stop by our art gallery and check them out (then, place your order, because you know you want to). Between this and the Matt Haley art update, there's plenty of new stuff just waiting for a new home.

That's all for now, kiddies. I do promise that the post-ECCC report will be next. Also, I'm expecting a new shipment of art from Richard Moore any day now (that is, if our new scheduling system in up to the task it was made for). So, you have even more good stuff coming your way in the near future. Until then, peace out!

The Emerald City countdown wides to a close!

Hey everyone! Well, the Emerald City ComiCon is now just over a day away. And since I will be going to Seattle to set up tomorrow, today is the last post you'll be seeing from me until after the show. So, here's one last rundown on where to find Sequential Treasures and our artists, who are at the show:

Sequential Treasures and Randy Kintz: table A-04 in artist alley

Ben Hansen and the Sketch Crew: tables A-18 thru 20 in artist alley

Matt Haley: table J-13 in artist alley

We are all looking forward to seeing many of your there, so be sure to stop by and say hello.

Finally, just for fun, I'm also posting the image to the Batgirl vs. Catwoman statue design art by Matt Haley, which he will have for sale, along with an autographed and numbered copy of the finished statue, at his table. I hope you all enjoy.

That's all for now. I'll be sure to do a report post on the show, after I get back. Plus, I'm sure I'll have more art to update by then, too. So, more good things are coming your way. Until then, peace out and I'll see you at the show!

The countdown to Emerald City marches on....

Hello again, my art loving aficionados! Once more, I return with tidings of some of the exclusive swag to be found from the artistically talented minds of Sequential Treasures at the Emerald City ComiCon. This time around, we put the focus on Randy "Rantz" Kintz!

As most of you know, I've probably worked harder to promote Randy's art, than any other currently in our stables. And he still continues to grow his artistic prowess. This is shown in his new Emerald City exclusive print of "The Sexy Librarian." This great new piece (which the original art of is shown here) is one Randy, not only created especially for this show, but based from an actual live model. Even more, she will also be accompanying Randy to the show. So, make sure to stop by Sequential Treasures own table (Table A-04, for those who don't already know), as you'll not only get to meet Randy and your humble blogmaster, but the beautiful babe of Randy's awesome exclusive print (which is limited to only 50 copies). Randy will also be doing sketches, as well (to see his price rates, just head over here).

That's all for now. I'll try to get off one more post before showtime. Until then, peace out!

3.07.2010

The Emerald City ComiCon countdown continues....

Hello, everyone. Well, we are now less than a week away from the Emerald City ComiCon. Can you feel the excitement in the air? It's almost electric!

As we continue the countdown to showtime, it's time to give you another glimpse into the exclusive items you'll find from the artistic talent of Sequential Treasures. This time out, we have our newest creative resident: Matt Haley!

Anyone who's read comics within the last 15 years will already be familiar with Matt's work. And you'll know he has a certain affinity for the ladies of the comics world. That's why he's going to have a Batgirl vs. Catwoman statue, from DC Direct, available to purchase for him. The piece is numbered and will be autographed by Matt. As an added bonus, you'll also get the conception art on which the sculpt was based. An awesome deal, no?

However, he can also do right by the guys, as well, which is why he's going to have an exclusive print (shown here) of "the master" himself, Bruce Lee! What's more, this print in numbered to only 40 copies. So, make sure you quickly stop by Matt's table (which is J-13 on the show floor map) to get one, because with such a low printing run they are sure not to last long.

That's all for now, gang. Stay tuned as I'll bring you even more show exclusives from our roster of artistic talent later in the week, as our countdown to the Emerald City ComiCon rolls on. Until then, peace out!

The Countdown to Emerald City begins....

Hello again, my faithful ones. Your not-so-humble blogmaster is back to give you more info and tidbits on the happenings at Sequential Treasures!

Well, the 2010 convention season is about to start full swing and we here have been gearing up for our first show of the year. Next week is the Emerald City ComiCon in Seattle, which is the largest show in the Pacific Northwest (as well as one of the most highly-respected shows anywhere). Sequential Treasures will be there in full force, along with a few of our talented artists. Not only that, but they will each be packing convention exclusive items with them.

One of the artists in attendance, who is also one of our newest additions, will be Ben Hansen. Ben isn't as well-known as some of our other talent, but what he lacks in notoriety, he more than makes up for with passion and artistic enthusiasm. He has a special con exclusive print (shown here), which is based from the cover to issue three of Battle Amongst The Stars, that he is doing for Bluewater Comics. Pretty spiffy, huh? If you will be at the show, make sure to stop by his tables (which are A-18 through 20, as he is sitting with the group known affectionately as The Sketch Crew) and pick one up for yourself.

That's all for now, but there will be more very soon. for the next week, I'll be putting up updates which will showcase the con exclusives from our artists at the show, as we countdown the Emerald City showtime. So, make sure to keep checking back here for all the news. We're going to make this show the most exciting one yet! Peace out!

Artist Bio: Matt Haley

Hello, my comic art faithful. I told you I'd be back soon with more news and info and you know your not-so-humble blogmaster has never lied to you before, so why start now?

Today's news is probably some of the biggest I've had to give in some time. It's something I've been sitting on for a bit, until the time was right to spring it. Well, all has fallen into place and that time is now: Sequential Treasures is now the exclusive art rep for big time comic star Matt Haley! This is very big news for us here and we couldn't be more excited to be working with an artist of Matt's reputation and caliber. I'm sure many of you are familiar with Matt's art from his time at the big two. But for those of you not so in the know, here's a small rundown on Matt's career:

"Artist Matt Haley is well known in the world of comic books for his years of work for Marvel (THE ORDER, HEROES REBORN: REBEL), DC (SUPERGIRL/BATGIRL: ELSEWORLDS FINEST, BIRDS OF PREY) and Dark Horse (GHOST), but he attracted a whole new audience thanks to the illustrations he provided for HarperCollins' new book BADASS, by Ben Thompson, in bookstores nationwide.

Already hard at work on the sequel, Haley also heeded the call to Hollywood and created art for both seasons of Sci-Fi Channel’s hit series, “Stan Lee’s Who Wants to be a Superhero?” But never to forget the industry that helped put him on the map, he remained a fixture in comics working on the art to Superman Returns movie adaptation. Haley’s talent and reputation as an artist have created a demand for his work that spans the entertainment industry.

More recently, he was lead artist for Rift Software's "Liberty Rocket" XBOX game, as well as providing covers for FEMME NOIR for Ape Entertainment, TANGENT: SUPERMAN'S REIGN at DC Comics, and Avatar's relaunch of LADY DEATH. He's
also just directed a secret film project that will be viral on the web by May."

As I said, this is big news. The only down side, is that Matt doesn't have very much of his past originals left for sale. However, Sequential Treasures is working with him to create new exclusive pin up pieces to be sold through us, as well as lining up commission works for him. We will shortly have a commissions rate chart available, so make sure to check in with us shortly, if you'd like to get your own Matt Haley original. Even better, Matt will be at Emerald City ComiCon in March, along with myself, Randy Kintz and Ben Hansen. So, Sequential Treasures looks to be out in force come March and you'll have the opportunity to meet many of the talented creators in our stables.

Wow, how exciting, huh? Things just continue to move onward and upwards for Sequential Treasures and we hope you'll be along for the ride. That's all for this time. I'll be back with more news and updates soon. If they turn out as impressive as this one, you just might not be able to stand it! Until then, peace out!

Seattle ComiCard Aftermath: Where were the people?

Well, here's my report from the show, as promised. As you can probably guess from the title, things weren't exactly stellar at this show, either. In fact, the amount of traffic at this show, made the Spokane one look about as packed as the Emerald City ComiCon, by comparison. Steve Miner is a good guy and this show can usually be a lot of fun, but I think some poor planning really hindered this one.

First off, at Key Arena right next door, there were graduation events going on. This made finding parking a real pain (not to mention even more expensive). As if that wasn't bad enough, in the section of the hall across from the show, they were holding an arcade game and pinball symposium filled with classic games to play. It seems that finding a worse weekend to hold the show would be highly unlikely.

That picture above is of yours truly, in what would be probably the best point of the show for me (the set up). Only sold a single piece of art all day and not a very expensive one, at that. No sketchbooks or anything else would move. My only consolation, is that it seems many of the other vendors didn't make out any better than me. One of them, Chuck Messinger of Comic Evolution, even told me that it seemed people who came didn't seem to bring their wallets with them. He actually wanted to buy a semi-expensive piece from me, but didn't make enough at the show to do so.

My show highlight was, again, handing out comics to the kids at the show. Gave away almost another 40 comics, too. I also got to bask in the glowing presence of Randy Kintz, which is a pleasure you just can't measure. I even got him to do an amalgam sketch of Alf as Superman. He seemed to do okay at the show, from a financial standpoint, but with me paying for the table and a friend driving him up, it would be hard to have come out at a loss. Wish I could get offers like that.

In the end, this was the biggest bust for me yet. But, as ever, I will soldier on. On the plus side, it means that all of you here online still have an opportunity to grab up some of the art I have in inventory (and given my losses at these local shows, I REALLY need the sales now). I probably won't be doing any more shows, until the one in Portland this November. So, make sure to mark your calendars for that one.

Well, that's all for now. I have some things I'm working on behind the scenes right now and can't talk about. But if they pan out, it'll be some really exciting news for everyone at Sequential Treasures and for you, my faithful followers. Plus, I hope to have some new art updates in the not too distant future. So, keep your eyes peeled here for the latest. Until next time, peace out!

Spokane Comicon Aftermath: A very mixed bag!

Hey everyone! Well, I'm back and rested up from doing the Spokane Comic Con this past Saturday. While there were some good things that happened from it, it also had its share of things that didn't work for me. So, here's my thoughts on the show...

I was set up between my guy, Randy Kintz (who is hard at work on a sketch in the picture here), and artist Jason Metcalf. The tables were smaller than I thought they would be and the space behind the tables of those of us in the artists alley section, was a bit cramped at time, since many of us had stuff we needed to keep behind the tables. In fact, the show itself was smaller than I anticipated. According to the guys who started it, this year (the third year of the show) is the biggest one they've done. Yet, for me, it was of a size that would be barely worth doing it, if I was in charge (makes me glad I wasn't at either of the first two shows, as well).

Once the doors opened, people started pouring in. I was pleasantly surprised to see as many kids as I did in attendance. I gave away almost 50 free comics to kids at the show, which was certainly one of the highlights of the show for me. It was also nice talking with some old friends who I have seen since Emerald City Comicon. I managed to get a sketch from artist Steve Lieber for myself, as well. There were folks done up in costumes for the contest held later that day (and if you'd like to see some pics of the contestants, make a comment here and I'll do up a post with some of the photos I got). I talked with some folks, and even managed to help a few get a greater appreciation of comic art and what is involved in the process of it.

However, despite that almost 600 people were reported to have come to the show, sales for me were almost non-existent. Not one piece of art was sold. If it weren't for some of the related items I brought with me (such as sketchbooks and autographed comics), I wouldn't have made a sale all day. I don't think this had anything to do with the con folks themselves, who seemed to be doing everything they could for the guests and dealers there. Something I noted (as did my wife) were all the people who mentioned this was their very first comicon experience. So, my guess is, that many of those who came, simply suffered from total sensory overload. It might have made the show more fun for them, but kind of hindered my main reason for being there.

So, while the show didn't pan out for me financially, I still had a good time and made the most of things. It was a nice little show, overall. I just didn't make out as well as I had hoped. Of course, these are just my thoughts. You can get another view of how things went, right over here.

While all of this was happening, the Josh Medors benefit auctions were ending. While I haven't got a final tally on how much was generated for the event, I do know that the pieces donated by Randy Kintz and Richard Moore brought in almost $100.00 together. I also know that, given where the prices were when I last looked in on the auctions, they must have raised several thousand dollars in all. So, good job, everyone! It is great to see this community can still pull together to help out someone in need.

As for what is in the future for all of you, well, I'm expecting another batch of art from Randy Kintz any time now. Plus, there is the Seattle ComiCard show on the 14th of this month, which I will also have a table at. With this show being more well-established and larger, I'm hoping to do better in making sales for my artists.

Of course, you can always help in that, by checking out my art gallery and making a purchase or two. Believe me, it is always appreciated. That's all for now. I'll hopefully have more news and stuff for you soon. Until later, peace out!

"Rantz" and Raves: Randy Kintz is Back!

Okay, everyone. I told you I nabbed up another artist at Emerald City ComiCon last weekend. And I hinted that this talent would be familiar to those of you who've bought art from me before (back when I was with Space Goat). Well, the time has come to do the big reveal. The "new" artistic talent joining Sequential Treasures is: Randy "Rantz" Kintz!

Those of you who can recall, know I was repping for Randy at Space Goat. Well, now he's back and so is his art. In fact, he's even got some things going on I'll tell you all about later, when I revamp his creator bio and post it up here this weekend.

For now, you can simply bask in the glow of his handsomeness in the pic shown here (he's just too cute in it, isn't he?), as I get ready to put up his art for sale on my gallery very shortly (and don't forget the updates I just did with Chris Ivy and Richard Moore, in which much of their art is still available to purcahse). What's more, Randy will be at the Spokane ComiCon in May along with yours truly. So, make sure to mark the day of the show on your calendar. Stay tuned for more info as it comes...

Emerald City ComiCon: Oh, What A Time!

Hey there, everyone. Your humble blogmaster has returned from his jaunt at Seattle's Emerald City ComiCon. Sorry for the delay in posting about it, but a good show is like a long flight, in that both will leave you jet-lagged and drained. So, I needed yesterday just to decompress a bit, but now I'm back and ready to roll!

The show was a lot of fun. I saw lots of creators, and even got some nice goodies for myself and the wife. On the business front, I didn't really sell much art at the show, but then since I was helping out at the Hero Initiative booth, that isn't all that surprising. Still, I was hoping for more, but maybe next year, when I can have a booth of my own.

My assisting the Hero Initiative was a pleasure on my part. On Saturday, I was given the special task of getting as many creators as I could to sign a Hero Initiative t-shirt, which will now head to San Diego Con for more signatures, before it is raffled off. I got a lot of folks to sign (over 60 in total), including Bruce Timm, Tim Sale, Humberto Ramos, Frank Cho, Brandon Peterson, Patrick Gleason, Amanda Conner, Bob Layton, Paul Smith, Tony DeZuniga, Joe Jusko, Erik Larsen, Jim Valentino and many others. Sunday was more my helping out at the booth. In all, the charity took in almost $5,000.00, which will go to helping many creators who are in need this year. So, a job well done on that front.

As far as what was done for Sequential Treasures, I talked with Brian Pulido and shown him the art of Richard Moore and Chris Ivy that I had brought with me. I said that if he had anything work-wise they could do, to drop me a line and I'd put him in contact with them. We'll have to see how that goes. And I did get another artist to sign up with me, so that now brings the total to three. I'll do a special blog entry about them very shortly, but I will tell you now that this will be a familiar face, if you bought art from me before. As for the pic shown above, that is yours truly with writer and Space Goat Productions President (aka, my former boss) Shon C. Bury. I'm the one on the left. It was good to see him and hook up after the show for some fun. So, while I didn't accomplish everything I hoped to do, I did make some headway. And there is another show in Spokane coming at the end of May, which I will have my own booth at. So, if you are going to be there, be sure to stop by. Before then, I expect to have some more new art from Chris Ivy and an update on my new talent. So, keep your eyes peeled and ears open, because things are just starting to get good. More to come later!

I'm Emerald City Bound!

Well, I'm back and here to tell you the top secret news I've been hinting at for days. The time for teasing you is done and the time for the big reveal is here. So, here it is:

I will be at the Emerald City ComiCon this weekend. While that may not sound very exciting in and of itself, there is more to it. I won't have my own booth this year, as I did last year. This year I will be helping out the Hero Initiative and will be working their booth there from time-to-time. What's more, I'll be bringing a nice big portfolio with Richard Moore and Chris Ivy's art in it with me, as well as some pre-sketched sketchbooks I had Richard do a few months ago, which will give anyone going to the show access to the art for buying purposes. If you haven't gotten something from us yet, you have an opportunity to do so and save on the shipping costs. Can't beat that, can you?

So, if you are in Seattle this weekend and going to the show, stop by the Hero Initiative booth and say hello. And if I'm not there at that time, be on the lookout for a guy roaming the aisles, with a backpack full of comics for signing and a large art portfolio under his arm, as that will most likely be yours truly. Hope to see some of you there! I'll try to give you all a report of how things go, after the show ends. Maybe I'll even throw in some funny pics of what I see there. Until then, peace out!
